Designation is pleased to announce its provisional membership in the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting (CIRR). This is the first stage of membership before full membership, which Designation has committed to reaching by March 1 of next year.

CIRR represents the first time any group of bootcamps and programs has come together and agreed upon a transparent, comparable set of outcomes reporting standards. While we can’t compare our outcomes directly to any programs outside of the design industry, we can compare it to data available on two- and four-year institutions as a whole. From those, 55% of first-time students graduate within 6 years; 35.7% of returning college attendees ever finish; and 27.3% of graduates work in a field related to their major. We’re hopeful that CIRR standards lead to changes across all higher education institutions to eventually begin reporting their outcomes data in a transparent, comparable format.

We’re joining CIRR because we believe in providing our prospective applicants all the information they need to make an informed decision about whether Designation is right for them. The CIRR standard goes beyond a single “placement rate” percentage and provides a simple table to report all of our graduates’ different outcomes, including full-time employment, part-time and contract employment, returning to a non-design field, and so on. It also goes beyond a single average salary statistic and gives us a format to report income brackets and common job titles for our graduates. CIRR is different from other reporting formats because it reports on every designer enrolled at Designation, including any who drop out of the program. That makes our job placement rate truly transparent.

Joining CIRR is a process that takes time, because every outcome we report must be backed up by rigorous documentation and an annual third-party audit. Designation has worked and committed to continue working to gather that documentation so we can make sure we report accurate numbers. We’re excited about being a CIRR member and preparing to release our outcomes data in the CIRR format in 2018. Stay tuned for that information next year. That will enable us to become full members, alongside 13 (as of today) of the strongest design and coding bootcamps and programs in the world.
